Curriculum

As a fellow home educator, I know how challenging it can be to find resources that truly fit into the flow of home life—resources that inspire our kids, encourage independence, and still offer us a supportive framework as parents. That’s exactly why we created Roots and Wings. This curriculum is designed with the home-educating family in mind: flexible, engaging, and adaptable for children 11+, yet still suitable for younger or older learners who want to dive deep into subjects in their own way.

Roots and Wings isn’t your typical curriculum. It’s all about child-led, independent learning, where kids follow their interests, explore big questions, and build skills naturally as they go. Our unit studies are built to spark curiosity and support independent thinking through a blend of research, creative writing, and hands-on activities. It’s real learning for real life, whether your child is studying at home, on the go, or even in your local community.

Every unit includes a Parent Guide to keep us, as parents, involved and informed—without taking away from our children’s independence. These guides provide conversation prompts, suggestions for deepening learning, and simple ways to weave topics into everyday life. They’re designed to make it easy to support our kids’ learning without feeling like we need to “teach” in the traditional sense.

Roots and Wings is made to fit into the unique rhythm of home education. These materials are portable, flexible, and ready to use whenever and wherever your family is ready to learn. With Roots and Wings, we’re not just checking off boxes; we’re supporting our children as they grow into curious, capable, and confident learners.

This curriculum is more than just ready-made material; it’s a framework to help our kids thrive while giving us as parents the tools to guide them on a meaningful, individualised learning journey.
